I have always wanted to install Linux onto my computer- but I always have major issues with it.?

December 3rd, 2007 by

First, I think I've only sucessfully installed it once and that was with Utubu (did I spell that right) latest program that installes like a program on Windows. Second, my networking hardware is never recognized (even by microsoft) and the only way I know how to get them installed is by downloading the data from the manufacture. I don't know how to deal with a download meant for Microsoft in Linux.

you help me with these things? my networking hardware is just the stuff that came on my laptop the wireless and the port) It is a dell laptop and by downloading off dell is the only way I can get that stuff to work I did some rather stupid things (read my other questions to find out what) so I really don't want to do wubi if I can help it.

Hooking up a Hard drive?

December 2nd, 2007 by

Ok I have an Sata and the old serial hard drive hooked up into the computer of mine. My bois sees the new 250 gig hard drive and windows found it in the “found new hardware section” But it doesn't show in my “My computer” section so I can start dumping stuff to it and free up some space.

am I doing wrong. I went to the bios and told it to use both Serial and Sata. My sata is the the primary. I know this is lacking info so just say what and I'll update.

What do with my computer?

December 2nd, 2007 by

Ok, I'm having huge problems with my computer. I dont know if i should just cut my loses and buy a new one or take it to a computer specialist.

computer is about 3 years old, and it is constantly crashing saying something about a recent hardware might of caused this. it still says this even though there is no software on my computer. I no longer have my original cd's for the computer, so I had to reformat the computer with a disk from my old computer.

after reformatting it, it still crashes saying the stuff about a recent hardware change. Also, everytime I turn my computer on, it says press f1 to start it and that theres gonna be a failure on the hard drive. I really need a computer that works, so Im unsure if taking it to a specialist will fix it.

help is greaty appreciated.

November 30th, 2007 by

I built my own computer in 2002 and it's now starting to give out.

the motherboard. I have a Soltek Socket A type mobo that just died and I would like to know what kind of a motherboard I should buy that will still be able to use my old hardware. Mainly, I want to be able to still use: - my old CPU, an AMD 1800+/266 ATHLON 1.53ghz. my system memory, which is three sticks of Crucial Technology 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Desktop Memory Do I need to get a Socket A mobo or can I get any other AMD-supported motherboard? Also, does it pay off more just to get a new mobo and a new CPU. I really don't need to use the computer for too much.

Playing Games using Software/Hardware?

November 29th, 2007 by

Here is what I mean: When I start a game Max Payne 2,I'm given an option to play using D3D Software T&L or D3D Hardware T&L. The game would crash with the hardware option, but play perfect, even on highest resolution and graphics with the software option.I'm wandering if anyone knows if its possible to play, say,GTA San Andreas that way. It keeps crashing, actually, restarting my computer.

help and information is much appreciated.
