December 2nd, 2007 by

got a 3 computer home network, one vista, one xp sp2 and one xp(first edition). i cannot install windows media player on the xp because it is not service pack 2. Im looking for another media player that i can share my tunes on all 3 computers. Im hoping to find something thats pretty easy, I have a hard time opening ports and all that crap I screwed up the network last week trying that. I know that i can put them in the shared folder and do it that way but i have a partition drive.

Is it too late for going for grad school ?Is it worth it ?

December 2nd, 2007 by

I have been working as a software devoloper in a steady well paying job for little more than 2 and a half years but i dont believe i am achieving anything since i am working in a banking domain which is totally different from what i did in my undergraduate and i am bored of it since i dont really understand why i am spending all these long hours writing code for stuff i dont even understand (banking stuff i mean) I want to go back to Grad school and specialise in computers and networking and eventually work in a field which is close to what i studied ,do you think i should go for it ,people say that you got a good job,a good salary why do you want to give up all that and go for it My finances are pretty decent and I can afford grad school By the way I am 23 years old and am talking about college full time Do you think its really worth it in the longer run ?

connecting to insecure wireless networks?

December 1st, 2007 by

I was just wondering if it is actually ILLEGAL to connect to some one else's insecure wireleness network. i.e. you dont need a pass word or anything? Can the host acutally see your computer logging onto his/her network or it just says a user has logged on the network and nothing happens after wards? thx

how does one view the wireless security settings on a vista run laptop?

December 1st, 2007 by

The laptop is a dell inspiron 1520 and it has windows vista home premium. I am trying to connect it to my wireless internet through an access point which works with my dad's laptop, but when i click connect to the network, it does not even ask for the encription key, it says “windows cannot connect to I clicked diagnose the problem and it told me to “view the wireless security settings on this computer to verify they are compatible with this network.” Now i am stuck trying to find these settings.

finding these security settings or a method to fix this problem will be appreciated.

My network is 802.11g and my laptop's settings say that it can do 802.11a/b/g

Modem Router Help PLEASE!?

December 1st, 2007 by

I have just bought a buffalo wbmr-kg54 modem router to set up a network. My old wire modem is connected to the phone line and then to my computer via a usb connection. However when i connect the router i cant establish an internet connection. Therefore when i try to go to the configuration page 192.168.11.1 i cant because there is no connection. Similarly when i use the old modem there is an internet connection but i am unable to go to the configuration page as it return page is not available.

help would be greatly appreciated as i have been stuck on this for about 2 weeks.

wireless connection?

November 30th, 2007 by

My computer shows that it's connected to our wireless network, and that the signal is excellent, but when you try to connect to firefox or ie, it won't connect.

could the problem be? I tried repairing, restarting the router, rebooting the computer. Didn't work.
